I believe in free speech, and am fiersly against censorship. But I have a shit load of kids battling demons of their own who were blasted with images of the terrorist act. We had to resort to turning the television around since the kids wanted to hear the updates. How can they show the death of thousands of people over and over again, like a cheap porno? There are kids who deserved the right to hear the news without those horrid pictures. We had numerous suicide attempts, kids in deep depression... And we acted as soon as we saw the repeated scenes. I have friends with kids who are having nightmares.

Why do they need to show these types of scenes repeatedly and with little or no warning?

Is there a way to limit the sensationalism without promoting censorship?

jake,i feel that free speech is one of the few rights that we still have that the government keeps out of. i on one hand wanted to hear every word of the great tragity that occured, want to feel the pain of my fellow brothers and sisters. wanted to see the destruction and stay informed, in hopes that when we do get the dirty little bastards that are responsable for the assult on the UNITED STATES... sorry, i was ranting.
i`m truely sad that the young people have and are suffering from this act. i feel very selfish for wanting the coverage shown. i did not think about the impact on the kids. to answer your question... i don`t think it would be impossible to limit coverage shown on broadcast t.v. , cable and satillite would be more easily dealt with i think.
thanks for giving me somethin` to ponder

Remember when Joe Theisman snapped his leg? They played that so many times I was sick for weeks... It's the difference between reporting and sensationalizing. They need to follow the same rules as daytime television. At least put a warning beforehand. Maybe show at the top of the hour. But show once... Not all the different angles, for Pete's sake. It doenst change from left to right. Thousands of people still died. Were murdered.

The media is our window to the world, I for one was sickened by the constant repeating on every channel here in the U.K of this tragic event.
We take the news for granted in this day and age, and I feel we have become de-sensitized to human tradgedy that is portrayed on the news.
Television is like the car window you look out of when you drive past an accident! you have to look at it because curiosity and bloodlust take over. Who here did'nt watch the gulf war "live" as it happened? I did and treated it like a major sporting event, I even remember Kim Phuk the vietnamese girl running from the village covered in napalm.
These events have to be reported I'll give them that, but they should be reported at the right time! not as they are occuring.
Maybe it's us that's to blame here for watching these broadcasts? I don't know?
I only know that it will continue with more live broadcasts on Afghanistan and any other state we decice to take action against.
Hard Hitting news is exactly what it says it is.
