Vangelis - Tears in Rain
Blade Runner

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

Mankinds most horrible and terrifying act is also our most beautiful. Pictures of our destructive technolgies in action rival the beauty of the most spectacular things in the night sky. Slow motion video of bullets tearing compressed cylinders apart and explosions ripping through water resemble supernovae tearing through the galaxy at speeds we cannot even imagine but on such a scale that we only see a snapshot in our entire lifetime.
I cant even imagine how beautiful the effects of our warfare will become in the future when we have harnessed yet unimagined technologies. Nor can I imagine the horror that those exposed to it will experience. Such is the trade off I suppose, but I feel blessed that I have been able to see such dangerous and beautiful things despite the fact that I may someday have to use them and have them used against me.

Are there any scenes in movies that touch you personally? Scenes that have more to tell in a minute than most movies made today have in their entire running time?

Paraphrased:

"Daddy, what is democracy?"
"I don't know, son. It seems to have something to do with young men having to go out and kill each other."

The lines I'm referring to are at about 1:10 left in this video:

If the scene seems a little strange, it's useful to know that it's a dream/memory, rather than a present-tense event, so there's a little bit of symbolism worked in.

I used to have the book that movie was made from. Johnny Got His Gun. Read it if you ever get the chance.

One of the strongest movie moments in my life:

From 12 Angry Men (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTDhgR3p12w)

Watership Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gYpLGxAetg) is one of the greatest stories ever written in my opinion. I am person that sometimes simply like a good story. And this is a good example. The entire movie is up on YouTube, but I have it on disc. The book is great too. One of the things I like is the beginning, in this part, where the author has created a pseudo-religion for his semi-scentient rabbits. He uses their sentience to describe their natural behaviour in ways that we people can understand. In this he gives them a culture.

One of the most gripping moments is when the rabbits encounter a colony that is close to a farm. The farmer puts out fresh veggies for the rabbits, which almost domesticate them. He does this, also he sets traps for them to die in, so he has fresh rabbit meat all the time. And this influence the rabbits, instead of their culture being natural and them centered around telling stories of tricks to survive in a harsh world, which would be essential to sentient rabbits, instead they start writing poetry about accepting their fate. A VERY strong scene that tells the difference between being free and being trapped. Everyone should read the book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watership_down) OR see the movie.

Amarote - that movie actually looks good, I may have to see that. Same with "12 Angry Men".

I've been meaning to get a copy of Watership Down, too.

Did I mention that Watership Down might be the first ever movie that the British film cencors rated U - children's movie - that includes the words "Piss off!" - in 1978, when establishment reacted to the punk movement by getting even more conservative.
