Protein Mix or Kids Cereal?

JakeD couldn't find my usual powdered protein mix (hush, Pos) and bough me a different kind to use in the meantime. I peeled off the protective wrapper and decided to look at the measurements. One serving is four scoops. I bit more than I'm used to, but whatever. Calories: 570. Whoa! That's twice as much... then I went to the sugar content. 67 grams. WTF!?! I thought this was supposed to be a health food item! Besides the fact that it would make me ill... the average person would be getting almost three Snickers bars worth of sugar (each has about 28.8 grams). Needless to say I nixed taking it.

JakeD's pissed because he didn't look at the ingredients. While I agree that he should have I don't think something in the health food aisle should have that much crap in it. Why even bother having a section for healthy foods if it's by name only? You might as well list "Vegetarian" section in the meat area. Actually, that would be kind of funny. "Oh look, here's some frozen... OH MY G-D!" *barfs*

how do you figure out the calories count?

no... all there is on food here is energy (KJ) which I believe is different from how many calories a food contain.

My bottle of Powerade says Calories 60 (Energy) So I guess they are the same thing.

a few years back all american packaged food had to start having labels giving nutrition facts--like calories, total fat, sodium, potassium, total carbs, total sugars, and protein--even bottled water has to have this info --or chewing gum-- so if you want to know something -just look at label--and of course the companies making these wouldn't lie about it would they?--sarcasm

aah i think i get it now... I just looked at a coka cola bottle and they actually have the calorie count on it.

it says:
Energy: 450 KJ
108 cal

so the kj is different from calories.. most food here in Australia only state the first one: kj - so you are one your own to find the calorie count.

kJ is a proper METRIC way of counting energy. Seeing how US is NOT normal and uses a screwed up ENGLISH system that event the BRITS DUMPED!!!

How much in weight, volume, or etc. is the serving? It could be that the amount of the serving is twice as much? Just a thought...

You do have to use four scoops to get a little less than what one scoop of the preferred kind would give. Mind you, I use two scoops each time to get 46g of protein. Imagine doing that with the other kind...

Well the second one does have a lot more vitamins. But yes, way more calories. It looks like it's supposed to be complete meal replacement.
