View Full Version : Yippee-ki-yay, Motherfucker
Die Hard is one of my favorite action movies. I own the first three and watch them from time to time. That being said I am not interesting in the fourth installment. It sounds too over the top and I'm not happy about the axing of his infamous line (Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker).
Of the movies you've seen, which is your favorite?

I'm surprised they've bowdlerized the new one, the appeal of the main character was always the fact that he was a very imperfect, middle-aged man with recognizable problems, an attitude problem and an ordinary vocabulary. My mother doesn't like action films, but she likes the first one: the one scene that never fails to make her laugh is from the first one, where Bruce Willis is inching along the vent, muttering and sarcastically impersonating about his wife. Toning all that down and making McClaine into a straightforward action hero misses the point entirely.
I think they're all good, cheeky films, although the third is weak in places. The first of them is arguably the most flawed, but it has the strongest plot and the best performances. I think the scene with Gruber in Tagaki's office ("I will count to three; there will not be a four") is right up there in the menace stakes with Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.

I'm generally not an action movie fan. Never saw any of them.

I love all the original three, especially the first because I <3 Alan Rickman, but I love the third one as well because I <3 Samual L Jackson....I havent seen the fourth one yet but I still want to, I will probably have to wait till it's out on DVD though...
The first, by far. I would have sex with that movie if it were possible.

I have only seen the 4th...haha...my friend took me to see it and I can't say not to an action flick with a decent plot...
plus Mac is in it and he is hot...:P
I would be interested in seeing the other ones though....esp the 1st one cuz I also <3 Alan Rickman, Marsbert....
The problem I had with this last installment was that some parts were stupid...like a jet fighter maneuvering around in a highway onramp/offramp/overpass/split...and firing in the vicinity of civilians...
Yeah, the first one is absolutely nothing like that and a total blast. One of the best films of all time, period. Goddamn I love that movie.
Much of what Am said contributes to the reason that I really don't give a shit about Live Free or Die Hard - It's not a Die Hard movie without grumpy John McClane, out of his element and getting the shit kicked out of him. He's brash, obscene, violent, and an asshole.
And it's such a well-realized film, too. Even the background players - Argyle, the limo driver, Johnson and Johnson...they're not just cannon fodder, they're amusing all in their own right. And, like everyone's said before, Alan Fucking Rickman. He owned that role. There's one part that I love, but I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it.
Just do yourselves a favor and go rent Die Hard right now. Seriously. Please. Please? Please. Please? Honestly. Please? Otherwise, I'll just stop recommending movies to all of you assholes who are like "eh, I'll check it out" and then never do. When you come to me later talking about how great/moderately amusing it was, I will look down my nose at you and possibly spit on you.
From what I've heard about LFoDH, he's cleaned up to the point of almost being a terminator...I guess not getting to say "fuck" does that to a guy. I'll be saving my Summer Action Movie Bucks for The Bourne Ultimatum, thank you much.

I have to admit, I like the second one a lot, it's a much darker film with some nice twists (Detective Sipowiz Air Traffic Controller was good, too, and the lead terrorist is very believable), but I quite liked the way they built Baader Meinhof into the first one. It was very inventive plot-wise, great characters, great dialogue, for once you're actually rooting for the hero because he's interesting, and the terrorist-heist idea was original. One other thing, too - it was a genuinely good Christmas movie, which is difficult to pull off at the best of times.
I'm not much of an action movie fan.

YES. I love the looks on people's faces when they ask what my favorite Christmas movie is, and I answer with "Die Hard".

I would probably choose Gremlins over it in the best Christmas movies stakes, just for the final Stripe-Billy tricycle chase. And I would have Hans Gruber and Stripe level on points on the all-time best villain stakes, although Gruber would probably shade it if he'd had a monocycle as a getaway vehicle.

I love the third one for a few reasons. The first is that they think that McClaine is a moron and can be toyed with quite easily, and he's not. The second, Samuel L. The third is the opening sequence where they pull McClaine out of bed (or out of a gutter) and stick him in his underwear in the middle of Harlem wearing that sandwich board. Another thing is when he's tied to the bomb, about to blow up, and his last request is for aspirins. For his hangover.
While I haven't seen them all, I still picked the 1st one. It still holds as one of THE best action movies I've ever seen, especially for the time it was made.

You're just toying with my brain now.

i havn't seen the 4th ..yet.. but still love the first flick for the action and believable scenes -- the police office when he gets a dead body thrown on his windshield-- shit shit and backs up into a ditch
and alan rickman is great
also at that time a friend/aquantiance had spent summertime at Bruce's and Demi's house in Florida--he had pics of Bruce being burried by his kids in sand (really bad hair day for him) and shots of him with Bruce and Demi-- and i wanted to get him to invite me to his house when they visited and they were to visit soon-- never happened but didn't lessen my love of this movie
