Talking to Kittyroze and Muse about moving has brought back some not so fond memories of trying to find a place to live. One of the biggest issues is telling the managers you have a pet. Many people try and sneak theirs in, which is risky. If you're looking at places and find one that you absolutely love, do you tell them about the pet or just try and slip it in?

Also, what are some moving stories (good and bad) that you've had to deal with? If you've never moved how about one of your friends?

The poll is multiple choice. Which would you tell the prospective landlord?

Small pet=guinea pig, hamster, bird, etc...

We have never moved.

I helped move my sisters cows( don't ask) From Universal City to Elemendorf in a van. Cows are loud, stinky and don't care where they relieve themselves. I offered to move them made into steaks and carried in ice chests. I figured it would be an easier way to transport them. And there is always supposed to be the traditional helping to move BBQ and beer. She didn't go for it.

Anyway. Always let a landlord know if you have pets. I've seen several friends get evicted for having pets when it was against their lease.

I vote to let them know. Chances are, they're going to find out, anyway.

I definitely let them know. This time around, caufield and I brought it up, and the landlord person dude chuckled when we said, "guinea pig."

I didn't bring up my intention to try and aquire some sort of puppy in the future. I think we can broach that subject later after we've proved ourselves to be fabulous tenants.

Luckily, it seems like places are pretty straightforward about whether or not they'll accept pets. The majority of the listings I viewed states right on there whether or not cats or dogs were acceptable.

I would never rent. I just couldn't hack the feeling of not owning the space around me, let alone having to obey someone else's rules.

Usually, the land lord is against ANY pets, or willing to bend on them if you are reasonable. Offer to pay a bigger deposit that they "may have to spend on pets cleanup", and they may be happy with that.

I have to agree. My place is a hell hole. But I own it and don't have to answer to anyone. I could let monitor lizards run through here if I wanted to. I would never have any company. but I don't care for the company I do get anyway.

If you say so, but I don't think so.

Yes you would, Bones: monitor lizards for one thing. And itinerant herpetologists for another.

i moved with parents 5 times, lived in only 3 rental appartments--in one had large poodle and told landlord-they didn't have problem-- in last aparment had water turtle--didn't ask, really didn't think to ask about a 20 gallon fish tank--but neighbour had cat and we weren't supposed to have animals, she would let it roam free and it liked to climb my car and sit on top-till i told her if i saw it on top of my car again she wouldn't find it as it wouldn't be around anymore--she called me names--but i also remeinded her that we weren't supposed to have animals-- she moved soon after that--btw--i was the first person in 3 years to get their FULL deposit back on their aparment when i left there--now live in own house and will be getting standard poodle soon

I wouldnt tell them if I had a hamster or like pet mice...but like something like a cat or dog which could potentially annoy neighbors or get out and destroy things in great ways then I would tell them...

I have no moving stories for myself...but I have helped my sister move a lot...the first time was when she was renting from a friend's friend and she didn't have a legit lease and she hated the guy (and there was a whole bunch of him wanting to charge more when the costs were all his problems, and him involved in 'illegal' activities and all that sketchy stuff haha) so one day when she knew he was gone we went and loaded stuff up in the van and just left.

Or the time that she asked if I could help her move and totally failed to mention that I would also be helping her fiancé move as well....

I've moved a LOT- 3 times in 1 year when my son was little. I've also been homeless with him. We lived in a tent. We moved that a lot, also.

Now I won't live in a place where I'm not allowed to have my pets- they're my kids! And since living in my own house for the last 14 years, I doubt that I'll ever rent again. Cripes- living with Mom is hard enough. And most of my stuff is upstairs.
