Bootcamp for troubled youth. Are you for or against it?

Hey Jake! I'm glad to see you posting. My opinion is yes. Of course, I think that there should be a system in place so that there isn't an abuse of power. But locking up kids who can be saved {and that's the key} isn't the answer. They need their anger broken and proper education. I believe it can be done. And it should be.

Our teachers are so underpaid in the U.S.
They can't handle the work load. Alternative schools work in certain situations but not really that well. I believe they should go back to the old way where the A.S. were mainly to train dropout students for a trade. Not a punishment for carrying a freaking nail file to school. Or even having a hunting rifle in the back windshield of dad's truck when the kid had to use dad's truck to get to school.
Common sense has gone out with the large amount of cash we so generously pay our educators. Yeah right!!!
Cokera, read the thread. You've got teens who have broken the law. What do you think about a bootcamp where they learn dicipline, get an education, hopefully learn to fight the gang mentality and go back into society when their time is up... As opposed to locking them up in jail cells and learning criminal behavior... and coming out more hardened to the world as before.

Okay but what is the difference between alternative school and bootcamps.
Alternative schools should be for older kids who dropped for whatever life reason but bootcamps have been the same here in Texas.
I can relate to a bootcamp mentallity but NOT our current A.L. system, I believe the P.C. attitude needs to be tweaked to reflect the real world we live in that's all.

I think teens are going to do whatever until they get a wake up call. Maybe all they need is a good dose of reality. But, I think parents are the key. It's such a fucked up age, and now they're getting worse. It used to be just a joint or a beer, now it's a gun and Xtasy. I can't imagine what it will be like in 20-30 yrs.
Once again I have to pull the parent card. If your children are sent to a boot camp, you have conceded defeat and relinquish all rights and benefits as a parent. Once the product is returned with all the modifications required to make it acceptable, you must realise it is not yours anymore. It has been modified to conform to a set of rules that you may not approve of, but, you sent it to a shop for repair, live with it. The boot camp starts day one. I can only speak of my household, and we have our "project child" and the dink gets boot camp all the time. So, I say no to boot camps, unless the boot is on my foot up against the ass of my children in our home.

Hey Mick! If more parents followed your lead we might not have the epidemic of teen rape, murder, drugs, violence, gangs... And the list goes on. But unfortunately, more and more people are popping out those kids without an ounce of forethought to what they are getting themselves into.
Parenting isn't a job you can do around your life. You forfeit that life and begin a new one as a parent... 24/7. I know there are exceptions to the rule. But for the most part, if you can't raise the child correctly, don't have them.
Children are not ways to save a marriage. They are not born to fullfill some biological clock. Their existence is not to carry on the family tree. Nor are they a free mealticket from the government.
Once that child grows, and is not raised by the parents, but rather the environment around them.... and that environment is gangs/drugs/violence/theft.... Then take that kid and put them somewhere where they have a fighting chance. Obviously it's not back to a home where the child raises itself. Rather than Juvenile Detention... I think that a well run Boot Camp is just the thing to help this child have a fighting chance.

I don't know I was a spoiled brat teen, who thought I was a bad ass and new everything, said fuck school, blah, blah, blah. My parents did the P.O. thing, juvey, counseling, survival camp and it still didn't matter. Then I had a friend who's mom was never there, she could have parties all the time, and she put herself through school, worked two jobs and graduated with a bachelors, and still partied her ass off. We were like on opposite sides of the coin. Anyway, my point is maybe it's just a destiny thing. Maybe some teens get it and some don't. I don't know. That's why I'm never having kids. It's crazy.
You're correct Diva. Pumping out kids is a relatively simple, and natural occurance, but it doesn't make you a parent. I've seen firsthand the marriage fixing a baby is supposed to do, and it doesn't. Maybe a boot camp for parents who need to accept responsibility for their offspring.

It seems the liberal retards have convinced Texas to give this 17 year old killer a reprieve from the death penalty. This guy doesn't deny that he killed this old feller for his car keys when he was 17 years old. He stood in the pool of this guy's blood after he shot him trying to find his keys to his car.

boot camps for kids is cool, but i got a better idea. i think i said this in another topic somewhere, but we should just make school more disciplinarily oriented. i got spanked in 1st grade. we should re-institute that shit.
i got sweet-ass ideas on that shit but i ain't gonna write it all down here. just that kids need to feel a little ass-whup in school. even create a special position of ass-whuptioner that roams the halls from time to time in an all-black suit and tie. just the IDEA of meetin' up with the ass-whuptioner would chill kids out.
i know after i got a taste i was a good little boy so i could avoid that shit. at least, until i entered high school, but that's another tale for another day.
And the one's that are already in trouble? Come-on, R-Dawg... Fill some space on that! You do it so well! Do you think boot camps are an alternative to Juvinile institutes?
yes and no. boot camp, no. it's only temporary. i propose an automatic 2 year enrollment in the Junior Disciplinary Mandatory Military. here, kids fuck up, and they get treated like real soldiers. but with on exception, there is no courtmartial. you either graduate or you don't. if you don't, you are sent to the military to serve out a mandatory 4 year assignment or 10 years of maximum security prison (10 years being the minimum # of years allowable).
but you know, the asswhuptioner is still my personal favorite.
