Losing oldest daughter Nikki, 18, in a car crash on Halloween has been hard enough on the Catsouras family. Now, their heartache is compounded by outrage. Graphic accident-scene photos, including close-up shots of Nikki, who suffered massive head trauma, have been leaked onto the Internet.

I actually saw these photos on a site some time back. It looks like the CHP is going to have some heavy explaining to do. What's sad is that this isn't out of the ordinary. There are tons of sites that actually cater to these sort of photos. I've seen too many injuries and deaths from working in the hospital to be shocked at them, but I can understand the morbid curiosity. But people need to think before gawking at these types of photos as a joke. Beyond the gore is a loved one lost, a grief stricken family and people trying to recover the death. It's sickening to hear that people taunted them. That's the one thing I hate about the internet. It gives spineless assholes a way to torment those who can only shake their fists in anger.

When I first came onto the internet there was a woman whose brother was posted on a friend's site (as well as others). She went insane, tormenting everyone, getting email addresses and sending them to all different sorts of sites. She harassed me for a bit then seemed to just disappear. Any pity I had for her was over shadowed by her actions. Still... I can't imagine how I would react if I saw a dead loved one posted on numerous sites. Every thing's funny until it involves someone you know.

That's kinda how I felt after 9/11 and they kept showing clips of people jumping/falling from the buildings. That's not news, it's just tasteless.

I used to post pictures on a death site (Mono). I actually had a lot of time for it because everyone needs a phase of seeing death in order to understand it, rather than avoiding it like the plague (you can't avoid tits, minge and cock on the net these days, but the nation sticks wool over its collective camwhore eye when it comes to cancer images). I did used to wonder just how someone would feel who knew someone who had died like that (one striking one was of a young woman who had slit her wrists in the bath), but in my defence I only ever posted shots from the Russian and Chinese revolutions.

And that's a great song

But on the serious side there's the dead myspace member website and that's working as a memorial to those people. It's a depressing site and I haven't been more than two or three times.

Mortality has reached the world wide web and sensabilities must be taken into account to ensure that everything remains within the boundaries of sense and decency.

from the context of CHP does this mean that it's a road accident?

A few years ago I was asked whether I'd be willing to go to crash sites and film the aftermath and there's a side of me that wants to because I'm curious to see it. At the same time if you're capturing the horror then there's a chance you'd be more careful.

In Switzerland when you're learning to drive you go through first aid courses where you're shown some gruesom pictures. That's so that you know what to expect but also to make sure that you're aware of how dangerous certain forms of driving are.

One person's pain is another's cash cow. I loathe the news for that very reason. After the OJ trial and then 9/11 I had finally had my fill of sensationalism. I turned off the television, unpluged the antenae and never looked back.

Those were the days. It's funny how many friends I've met through quirky sites like that. Red came from there too. I had that phase too. I was just starting out on the web and came across a cancer photo. I was amazed. Suddenly I was able to understand what happened to people when they got diseases. It can be educational if done tastefully. That's the biggest issue. I can understand being curious. It's the mocking that is bizarre.

I grew up watching stories about the Holocaust so these sorts of photos were natural to me. I remember coming across a great site about the Nanjing massacre. Those truly disturbed me.

Yes, CHP is California Highway Patrol. I'm so proud... I agree about seeing the dangers. Hearing 'they died in an accident' and seeing what happens definitely makes you think before putting the pedal to the metal. I drive a LOT more carefully.

I don't find anything funny about this one. In fact I'm disgusted. Even my sick , twisted , idiotic sense of humor has limits. I find nothing funny about a persons death. (Well maybe a few peoples. refer to the Darwin Awards)
