ENID, Okla. (AP (http://www.morningsun.net/stories/033102/usw_0331020031.shtml)) -- Garfield County prosecutors allege an Arkansas resident tried to exchange her baby girl for a Chihuahua puppy.

Kathryn A. Smith was charged Friday in Garfield County District Court with a felony count of trafficking in children. Smith, 21, was released on her own recognizance after surrendering to authorities.

According to court documents, Smith allegedly offered to give her mother's neighbor custody of her 7-month-old daughter if the woman would give her a Chihuahua puppy the woman was selling for $200.

Smith later upped the price for the infant to $2,000, authorities allege. The other woman told Enid police she agreed to a trade just to get the girl away from Smith, whom she believed was neglecting the child, an affidavit stated.

Smith's mother later told the neighbor that Smith tried to sell the child again after moving to Arkansas, the affidavit stated.

She is scheduled to return to court May 8 for a bond appearance.

There are some sick people in this world. I can't stand Chihuahuas, but I wouldn't trust that woman with one, either. i hope they take that child away from her and never give it back.

I agree that the act this woman committed is repulse but I would love to know some more background on her story before completely drilling her into the ground.

There's just one thing to consider, Aussie. She also tried to sell the child again. What about the future buyer? She could be selling the child to a pedophile.

No, I think it's a lose lose situation.

A woman accused of selling her 19-month-old son for $10 has been indicted by a Carroll County grand jury. The grand jury charged 23-year-old Angela Joann Robinson, also known as Angela Alladina, of Haralson County with cruelty to children, selling or offering to sell a human body and reckless conduct. Two women who said they bought the child Feb. 12 took him to the sheriff's office. They told investigators that the boy was dirty, and when they told her to take better care of him she said that for $10 she would give him to them. The boy was taken into custody of the Department of Family and Children Services. Robinson, who was staying across the state line in Cleburne County, Ala., was returned to Carroll County, where she posted a $10,000 bond and was released. The boy's twin brother has severe medical problems, said Chief Deputy Brad Robinson, who is not related.
