The past couple of years I have not splurged on myself at all. In the past I have bought things like a new computer (twice), an upgrade on the server (not really for myself, but ya know...), and new bed. Now I'm in the midst of a dilemma. I am almost done paying off Ginger's vet bill (it was 1100) and want to get something for me. I can place it on my card and make payoffs, so the money isn't *that* much of an issue.

This all started when I learned we were getting dual 20" flat screen monitors at work. The IT guy set the first one up and I creamed my pants. It's gorgeous! I kept thinking about how great it would be to have that set up at home. I could work on things while still chatting with friends and not having to constantly minimize my work. IMs on one screen, everything else on the other.

I came home and talked about it on the IRC channel. After talking with Jake I also mentioned a big screen TV wouldn't be a bad idea considering we watch so many movies (about 145 DVDs and growing and about 120 VHS). After drooling over big screen TVs (between 30" and 52") for a while we looked at each other and were stumped. Both should be around the same amount of money.

One big screen TV we were going to look at is an RCA 52" (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4872141).

I have pictures of the dual monitors on my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/j00wish/).

Technically I could buy both, but that's a lot of money to spend all at once. I don't think I could bring myself to do it. Which one do you think I should do?

I had dual monitors hooked up on my computer. It was great. But one of my graphics cards went out. Bummer. But if you can get 2 monitors going, I suggest it. Once I figure out the problem I'll have mine going again. It feels like I'm only getting half the stuff I do done having to work on one monitor.
I'm not a big fan of TV, so I won't go there.

If I had that kind of dough I would buy an entire car-lot of foot-operated hand-taps.

I voted you should buy the TV but I am a tv addict most of the time, but if you are a movie watcher like I know you are, then big tvs are a good thing :)

buy both. failing that the TV because that's cool, the monitors are uber-geeky and would make me hate/be jealous of you.

i use dual 21" LCD's at work and scream when i go home to my 17" CRT-- but am also thinking of buying new monitors or new TV--but was looking at plasma or LCD big screen TV-- as i think LCD's and plasma's will go down more in future, it's a decision to think about-- but the monitors i use at work are the Dell's and really nice--but i need them as of the applications i use--used to have 21" CRT's and when got the LCD's almost wet my pants-- as far as LCD or Plasmas we have a 52" in the back of work and it in less than 2 years already had burn-ins on it so makes me real leary of them--
one decision you have is the tv may be obsolete in a few years becasue of how tv stations are changing how they broadcast-- but as it is right now seems like a nice one just heavy at 160 lbs and will take up alot of space with no storage underneath--to put dvd player or tivo but would have that problem with a wall mounted plasma or LCD-- just giving my opinion
