View Full Version : Trust me, it's not THAT bad.

So I hopped out of the car this morning, went into the post office to get the mail, and walked out to the bus stop. I had a fresh check in my shirt pocket ready to deposit, and had bummed a quarter and a pen off of Diva before she took off (both of which I had absentmindedly forgotten at home). I instinctively reached for my wallet to make sure I had my debit card.

No wallet. Fuck.

I started back to the apartment, a string of curse words on my tongue. 1 1/4 miles walk and no buses in sight. I knew I'd be late for work. Goddamnit.

Roughly 1/4 mile down the street, a bus headed eastward pulled up to the stop. I finally just decided to jump on and go to work, wallet be damned.

I got off at the bus stop about a mile from work to do my customary morning walk. I walked by the ATM, still cursing the fact that I didn't have my debit card. I walked by the convenience store, cursing the fact that I didn't have any cash on me.

As I crossed the street, I saw a skinny old man lying on a bus stop bench, toothless and bronzed from too much time in the sun. He twitched intermittently, and his limbs jutted out like twigs from his ragged, dirtied clothes. Pigeons clumsily ambled around a grimy clear plastic cup sitting on the ground next to him. A few pennies and dimes lurked in the bottom.

I thought, "Well, I guess it could always be worse."

Ever had any moments like this?
